Brainlab announce the continues commitment to provied radiosurgery excellence

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY FROM BRAINLAB PROVIDES ENHANCED OPTIONS AND BROADER ACCESS TO TREATMENT - 30/06/2018

Instituto de Radioterapia – Fundacion Marie Curie announced today its purchase of a fourth Novalis® Radiosurgery program from Brainlab to provide a comprehensive and focused vision for excellence in cancer treatments. The institution will also be the first in Argentina to offer treatment with Novalis powered by a Varian TrueBeamTM linac.

Novalis Radiosurgery is an advanced configuration of specialized tools dedicated to fast, precise and highly targeted stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) treatments through utilization of Brainlab Elements®, ExacTrac® and high resolution beam shaping. Intelligent and indication-specific, Elements provides streamlined workflows for treatment planning. ExacTrac patient positioning and monitoring system detects intra-fractional tumor motion during treatment delivery ensuring submillimetric precision during radiotherapy and radiosurgery treatments. Collectively, with the high resolution beam shaping, these solutions extends the capabilities of surgeons looking for alternatives to aggressive surgery or chemotherapy through Novalis Radiosurgery.

All four Novalis systems at Instituto de Radioterapia – Fundacion Marie Curie will be network based on Brainlab Node allowing clinicians to decide where, when and how to generate and review patient plans. Node helps improve treatment outcomes by bridging the communication gap across various clinical subspecialties, encouraging cross discipline or combined treatment discussions and plan approvals.

“We treat about 500 patients each year with our Novalis Radiosurgery Program who are presenting with cancers of the brain, spine, lung, pancreas, oligometastasis, prostate, head and neck and others, "

said Dra Silvia Zunino, Director of Instituto de Radioterapia-Fundacion Marie Curie). “With the addition of a fourth system, we are continuing our commitment to provide the best technology and broader access to radiosurgery for patients all over South America.”

The Instituto de Radioterapia has already shown its commitment to improved radiotherapy treatments to patients in South America by undergoing the Novalis Certified audit and receiving certification on May 21st 2017. Novalis certified is an independent accreditation program that promotes the delivery of cranial and body radiosurgery at a level of efficacy and commensurate with a very high standard of clinical practice. The program is designed to work in tandem with other established quality and safety programs of the treatment of cancers with SRS and SBRT.

“It is an honor to be part of the prestigious Novalis Certified community,” commented Dr. Silvia Zunino, Director of Instituto de Radioterapia-Fundacion Marie Curie. “The program achieves the quintessential win-win: it is good for physicians, hospitals, patients and their families while promoting a culture of excellence.”

As part of its dedication to promoting wider access to advanced stereotactic radiosurgery treatments, the Instituto de Radioterapia – Fundacion Marie Curie will host leading international clinicians today to further establish best practices and share the latest scientific insights on Cranial and Spine SRS. Presenters will include Dr Robert Kaida Chin, from UCLA, Dr Sergio Moreno Jimenez from ABC Hospital and Dr Martin Saez from the University of Buenos Aires.
